Implants, Crowns & Veneers.

Implants.

Dental implants are a perfect solution for replacing missing teeth and are a great long term alternative which can be used as part of a variety of treatments - crowns, bridges and dentures.

A dental implant is a replacement root for your tooth. There are many advantages of implants including improved appearance as they look and feel like your natural teeth and also improved self esteem as they will give you back your smile and improve your confidence.

Implants can also be used to give ill-fitting dentures a better fit and reduce the problems associated with this. Improved speech and discomfort are just two of the advantages gains by using implants with your dentures.

Crowns.

In some cases a filling is not enough to restore a broken tooth. If a tooth is heavily filled or broken your dentist can use a crown.

Crowns cover the whole of the tooth restoring the size, shape, appearance and function. They can last many years and feel just like your own tooth. They are convenient in the fact that they are cemented in place and do not need to be removed.

Bridges

Gaps caused by missing teeth can often be replaced by a bridge. A bridge provides a false tooth which is held in place by attaching it to an adjacent tooth.

There are two main ways to attach the bridge which is done by crowning an adjacent tooth which is known as a Bonded Bridge - this option tends to be strongest. The other option is fixing a small 'wing' to the back of the tooth known as an acid etch bridge.

This option is the least destructive of the adjacent tooth.

Veneers

A porcelain veneer is a very thin layer of porcelain that covers the front surface of your tooth. It is very similar to a false nail or contact lense.

Porcelain veneers are very popular and are often the first thing patients enquire about if they are considering cosmetic work. Porcelain veneers are routinely used to fix:

  • Teeth that are discoloured from either root canal treatment or resin fillings that have discoloured.
  • Teeth that have worn down.
  • Teeth that are chipped or broken.
  • Teeth that are misaligned, uneven or irregular shaped.
